What is the Church part 2

Video Details

Description: In Part 2 of our series "What is the Church", Bryan explores the biblical definition of the church (ekklesia in Greek) as God's covenant people, continuous from the Old Testament (e.g., Mount Sinai assembly) through the New Covenant. There's always been one Israel of God, not replacement theology—one people under two covenants, with overlap in the 30-70 AD transition period. We examine continuity in practices like teaching God's word, singing psalms/hymns/spiritual songs, prayer, child instruction, rebuke/restoration. Old Covenant shadows (food laws, festivals, Sabbath, sacrifices, priests, temple) are fulfilled in Christ—the substance—so no longer required. Temporary transition practices like head coverings for prophetic prayer, supernatural gifts (apostles, prophets, miracles, tongues ceased in 70 AD per 1 Cor 13), and weekly communion (proclaiming Christ's death "until he comes" in 70 AD judgment) are not for today. The church is Christ's body/head, a household upholding truth, displaying God's wisdom to authorities, and a continual feast in his presence. Leaders care for the church family like the Good Samaritan. Next: the church's mission. Scripture References (from transcript, LSB; Greek/Hebrew notes where relevant): Ekklesia (ἐκκλησία): General OT/NT usage (e.g., LXX for qahal/assembly in Deut, Ex; NT church). Mount Sinai church: Ex 19-20 (implied qahal/ekklesia).
